STORYBLOKS
STORYBLOKS
Storybloks creates a hands-on, collaborative experience that engages kids through storytelling and play.
This activity allows Speech therapists to disguise data collection as play to better connect with their clients.

The Blocks
Each block represents a scene in a buildable story. The Speech therapist and their client can work together to connect the blocks and watch their favorite stories move across the displays.
Hardware Features
1. Soft Silicone Cases offer durability and protection to the internal components, as well as prevent injury to the children interacting with them.
2. Magnetic Connection pins on each of the blocks introduces an enjoyable building experience, and allows for the displays to communicate with each other.
3. Embedded speakers vocalize the stories, and microphones work to collect essential vocal data from the clients for the speech therapists to further analyze
The Charging Dock
A Portable dock allows for the blocks to be stored and carried between sessions. Magnets on each block allows for charging through a USB-C port on the back of the dock.

The Companion App
The dashboard for the Storybloks system. It allows the client to pick which story they would like to build, and visualizes all of the collected data in one place for the speech therapist

Research
What’s the Problem?
The process for evaluating speech disorders is time consuming, distracting, and disorganized for SLP’s. It is also a boring process for the clients. The methods in place require the SLP to keep their clients engaged, while also attempting to collect essential data unobtrusively. This leads to a loss of data.

The Users

Concept Development
I generated ideas around different engaging and interactive data collection solutions based around the needs identified from the personas
After validating some concepts with my users, the idea of ‘Storybloks’ was further developed.
